Fodor's Expert Review Hergés on the Loch
Editor's Note: This location is no longer in operation.
At this light and airy place, a wall of windows allows you to contemplate swans and ducks as they float serenely across Gunknowe Loch, and, if the weather allows, you can dine on the terrace. The elegant but understated food, well presented and served in generous portions, includes familiar dishes like steak-and-ale pie, fish-and-chips, and steak. The expansive menu includes imaginative takes on the familiar; the goat's cheese herbed panna cotta starter is an agreeable surprise, and the haunch of venison is served pink with a pickled mustard seed sauce. Hergés was named after the Belgian creator of Tintin, the beloved cartoon character whose statue oversees the drinkers in the comfortable bar area.
