The last seagoing paddle steamer, the wonderful Waverley has retired several times, but the city refuses to let this Glasgow institution fade away. It sails from Glasgow to the Clyde estuary (Glaswegians call it "doon the watter") and the islands of the west coast. The riotous evening jazz cruises remain very popular. The Waverley is permanently based at Lancefield Quay, beside the science museum.
