Side Trips from Moscow Restaurants

You'll find relatively few restaurants in many of these towns, largely because Russians don't dine out that frequently. The most reliable restaurants are in hotels catering to tourists or, occasionally, in downtown locations near main tourist sights. This is slowly changing, and some of the restaurants outside hotels can be quite cozy.

This spot right across from the Lavra draws lots of tour groups, who are served traditional fare, including golubtsi, meat cooked inside cabbage leaves, and several types of vodka by waiters dressed in peasant costumes. Service is pleasant but can be slow when the big groups pack in for lunch.
