When To Go

Visitors to Porto can expect hot, sunny summers and cold, rainy winters, with fall and late spring falling very pleasantly between the two. The compact city center can feel a little packed in July and August, with the crowds dissipating a little as the temperatures drop in late September. Expect lower prices from October to April, but be prepared for misty weather to mar the views. Rising temperatures bring a festive spirit to the city, and June's raucous festivals are a fun time to see the city in full swing, although you should book lodgings well in advance if you plan to be here for the the biggest of the parties: the São João festival on June 23.
