Fodor's Expert Review São Rosas
Editor's Note: This location is no longer in operation.
The castle in the historic center of town also houses this gastronomic landmark, serving traditional cuisine in an upscale, white-tablecloth setting that caters to pousada guests and weekenders from Lisbon. When in season, wild asparagus, wild mushrooms, and truffles appear on the menu. Specialties include tarte de perdiz (partridge pie) and sela de borrego (baked lamb). For fish try the trout with chouriço (smoked sausage) and poejos (native herb) or the sopa de cação (dogfish soup). The tomato soup, soaked with bread and served with dried sausage on the side, is indeed a meal in itself.
