Fodor's Expert Review Adega do Alentejano
Editor's Note: This location is no longer in operation.
Dine on hearty, simple food with in-the-know locals at this pleasantly rustic Alentejo wine cellar. Walk through the beaded curtain made of wine corks into a simple dining room with red-and-white-checkered tablecloths, blue-and-white-tiled walls, and huge Roman-style clay wine jugs. The signature dish is tomato soup—a meal on its own—with soaked bread, a poached egg, and dried sausage served on the side. Black pork steaks are also a specialty. There's no English menu, but the helpful staff will guide you through the Portuguese version.
