Buses of various vintages can take you to most destinations within the region, and bus depots—unlike train stations, which are often some distance from the town center—are central. Although this is a great way to travel and get close to the local people, it requires considerable time and patience. Timetables can be found at all the central bus stations, and most of the staff speak good English.

Rede Expressos provides comfortable bus service between Lisbon, Porto, and Coimbra, and to other parts of the Beiras. International as well as regional services are available at the Rodoviário da Beira Litoral bus station in Coimbra and at the Rodoviário da Beira Interior stations in Castelo Branco and Covilhã.
