Fodor's Expert Review Quinta do Encontro

The eye-popping architecture alone would make this winery, located in a tiny village northwest of Curia, worth visiting. Circular throughout, the building's design is apparently inspired by oak barrels, and the spiral interior walkway is playfully modeled on a corkscrew. Set amid vineyards and gently rolling hills, Quinta do Encontro offers wine tastings and guided tours of its ultramodern wine-making facilities. No advance reservations are necessary, though they're recommended. There is also an excellent restaurant.
