Fodor's Expert Review Uroczysko Zaborek

Kolonia 28, Podlasie, 21-505, Poland Fodor's Choice

Local owners have saved about a dozen heritage wooden buildings from oblivion by turning them into this unique hotel. In a vast area of woodland, fields and meadows, they gathered buildings, including a historic parsonage (c. 1880), a farmer's cottage, a windmill, and even an old church. All these were bought or salvaged in neighbouring villages, reassembled in the new location, and turned into cozy residential quarters, with plenty of space between them. Guest rooms, complete with en suite bathrooms, have all the basic comforts and more than a great deal of charm, but they are all different. In warm and spacious common areas—and in the summer, also in the conservatory—simple yet delicious meals are served, based on local ingredients. Hiking paths start at the doorstep, and the hosts have devised nature trails, games, and other activities for both children and adults.
