Fodor's Expert Review Zeeuws Museum
Occupying a substantial portion of the 12th-century abbey complex that dominates much of the center of Middelburg, the city's pride and joy is this lovely museum with a far-reaching collection. On view are tapestries illustrating major sea battles of the 16th century fought between Holland and Spain; curiosities such as an 18th-century cabinet ornately decorated with sea shells; historical clothes and costumes; exhibits depicting life in Zeeland since the Middle Ages; and canvases by Mondrian and Toorop. The museum regularly hosts temporary exhibitions.
