Fodor's Expert Review Locanda San Barnaba
Dorsoduro 2785–2786, Venice, Veneto, 30123, Italy
Editor's Note: This property is currently undergoing renovations.
This charming, value-for-money family-run establishment is housed in a 16th-century palazzo and, if you're lucky, you'll bag one of the superior rooms or junior suites—all of which have 18th-century wall paintings and two of which have small balconies with Rio Malpaga canal views. Arched openings in the private garden wall peek through to the side canal; head upstairs to relax on the tiled rooftop terrace. There's no elevator, but the accommodating staff will happily assist with your luggage (a ground-level room is available, too).
PROS
- traditional furnishings make spacious rooms attractive and welcoming
- lovely salon and garden to relax in
- reasonable prices for Venice
CONS
- no elevator
- buffet breakfast gets mixed reviews
- lacks the amenities of larger hotels (no restaurant or spa)
