Why We Like It

With its quiet setting by the water and affordable charm, Alle Vita Dorata is a cozy place to call home when in Venice.

Fodor's Expert Review

Six-room B&B Alla Vite Dorata, down a narrow street that ends at the small Rio Ca’ Dolce canal, has simple Venetian-style rooms, personable service, and a charming location just a short walk to the Rialto Bridge. The neighborhood feels authentic and is home to some highly rated restaurants—and prices are on the (relatively) gentle side.

Room

Bright fabrics on the canopy beds, bedspreads, pillows, and curtains as well as original beamed ceilings enliven simple Venetian-style rooms with neutral-colored walls.

Tip Ask in advance for a room with canal views.

Bathroom

En-suite tile bathrooms all have showers.

Lobby

The small lobby has beamed ceilings and a Murano glass chandelier; it’s not really a place to hang out, but then again, you do have all of Venice to explore just outside the door.

Dining

There’s no restaurant at Alle Vite Dorata, but a basic breakfast is served every morning in a pretty yellow-accented room with beamed ceilings.

Tip Wake up early to snag the one table out on a terrace overlooking the charming canal.

Getting Around

The Ca’ d’Oro vaporetto stop, from which a boat will shuttle you all around Venice, is only a 5-minute stroll away. It’s also straightforward to get to and from the airport by boat; take the Alilaguna airport boat to the Fondamenta Nuove stop, from which it’s a 6-minute walk to the B&B. Boats to Murano, Burano, and Torcello also leave from the same stop.

Restaurants

Cozy Osteria Ca’ d’Oro alla Vedova (4-minute walk) is known for its polpette (fried meatballs) and local vino. Reserve in advance for a great selection of traditional dishes—especially the seafood—at Osteria La Bottega ai Promessi Sposi (3-minute walk). Charming family-run Vini da Gigio (6-minute walk) offers tasty pastas and seasonal dishes with a great wine list.

Bars

El Sbarlefo Cannaregio (2-minute walk) offers delicious cicchetti like the classic sarde in saor (sweet and sour sardines), plus a good choice of wines and cocktails, while petite wine bar Un Mondo di Vino (4-minute walk) is a great place to enjoy aperitivi (wine or spritz and bar snacks).
