Train Travel

Ferrovie dello Stato (FS) is the national railway of Italy. You can plan itineraries, purchase tickets, and look for special deals online. The Stazione Centrale in Cagliari is next to the bus station on Piazza Matteotti. There are fairly good connections between Olbia, Cagliari, Sassari, and Oristano. Service on the few other local lines is infrequent and slow. The fastest train between Olbia and Cagliari takes nearly four hours. Local trains connect Sassari with Alghero (one hour). Trenino Verde della Sardegna operates tourist trains on narrow-gauge lines through the island's interior. These high-season-only services are slow but travel through some of Sardinia's most panoramic landscapes.
