Why We Like It

Hotel Domus Aventina is located on a peaceful location on one of Rome's seven hills. The private tiled courtyard in front of the hotel is a beautiful way to spend the evening in the peaceful locale. This hotel's proximity to so much greenery is rare in Rome and is a perfect way to make a vacation all the more relaxing. Major attractions are within walking distance and it's a great value for the money, which make this an ideal hotel if you're looking for a quiet stay.

Fodor's Expert Review

The best part of this quaint, friendly hotel is that it's between two of Rome's loveliest gardens—a municipal rose garden and Rome's famous Orange Garden—in the heart of historic Aventino not far from the Temple to Mithras and the House of Aquila and Priscilla (where St. Peter touched down). The 17th-century facade has been restored so it almost looks modern. Inside the guest rooms have comfortable low-key decor, with wall-to-wall carpeting, fabrics in warm tones, and prints of the city on the walls. Half the rooms also have balconies.

Tip Don't miss the Aventine Keyhole (8-minute walk). Peer inside the nondescript keyhole on the doorway to the Priory of the Knights of Malta to see one of the best views of the city.

Room

Rooms are subtly decorated in pastel colors, and have a minibar, tv and WiFi. Beds and furniture are comfortable, but furnishings overall are a bit dated. Basic rooms have space for little more than the bed, so if you plan on spending time in your room try to get an upgraded room.

Tip Ask for a room with a balcony overlooking the checkered tiled courtyard.

Bathroom

Bathrooms, done in bright white brick and tiled floor, are small but have been upgraded recently so they look modern and are kept extremely clean. Some of the showers are small so if you're tall ask for a larger bathroom in advance. Bring your own toiletries.

Lobby

The lobby floor is a beautiful chevron patterned tile. Walls are painted in fresco style and plants are abundant. THere's a seating area with striped velvet sofas and plenty of reading material. Staff is on call 24 hours to help out with whatever you might need.

Dining

A plentiful buffet breakfast is served each morning with all of the basics including cheeses, meats and pastries. The coffee is good and strong here so fill up before heading out for the day.
