Fodor's Expert Review Cattedrale

Trani Religious Building/Site/Shrine Fodor's Choice

The stunning pinkish-white 11th-century cathedral, considered one of the finest in Puglia, is built on a spit of land jutting into the sea. Dedicated to St. Nicholas the Pilgrim, it was a favorite place of prayer for crusaders embarking for war in the Holy Land. Its lofty bell tower can be visited by request at the nearby Museo Diocesiano; the views are worth the climb. Group and other guided tours must be booked via the website.
