When to Go

High seasons in Naples are the so-called shoulder seasons elsewhere—April–June and September and October. Nativity scenes are a Neapolitan specialty, so Christmas and New Year are also busy times. Book well in advance if visiting then. From July into September the entire area surrounding Naples—including the Amalfi Coast and Capri—fills up with local Italian holidaymakers, pushing up prices. Many shops close during August, but tourism ensures sights and restaurants remain open, although the summer humidity can be oppressive for many.
