Hotel L'Orologio

Piazza Santa Maria Novella, 24, Florence, Tuscany 50123, Italy

Why We Like It

Watch-buffs can spend hours looking over the private collection of the owner and continuously marvel at the smallest watch-related details that are strewn throughout the hotel. Generally, the rooms are spacious, and the staff helpful – especially for families and pet owners. Located in a very central spot makes walking easy and having the train station nearby means never having to hop into a cab. Friendly, kitschy, and stylish all at the same time, Hotel L’Orologio is a great option any ‘time’ you visit.

Fodor's Expert Review

As its name implies (orologio means clock in Italian), the hotel is a watch-themed abode that’s been converted from a 16th Century building. Every piece of art and design detail is somehow watch related with the owners own vintage collection on display throughout the property. Incredibly dog and kid friendly, this hotel is great for families who want a little kitsch with their stay and in a location that’s in the middle of the city center.

Tip If you bring your furry friends, the hotel has pup amenities like doggie beds, chew toys, and biscuits.

Room

Every floor of the hotel is dedicated to vintage watches like Rolex, Patek Philippe, etc., while every room is named after a specific model of those watches. Beyond photos of watches and watch-themed design details, rooms typically have hardwood floors, cushioned headboards, and leather paneling and furniture. Coffee, tea, and bottled water are all complimentary.

Tip Inquire about family rooms that feature two bedrooms and welcome kits for kids.

Bathroom

Marble is everywhere – floors, sinks, shower/tubs, etc. Bathrooms are decked out with shaving mirrors, bidets, and Santa Maria Novella bath products that are made specifically for the hotel.

Lobby

The lobby has a mix of stone and hardwood floors and has the look and feel of a vintage library with watch parts and other timepieces on display next to a working fireplace, lounge chairs, and giant orange couches.

Spa

There’s not much of a spa, but there is a Finnish sauna that’s open 24-hours a day. Just let the front desk know 15-minutes ahead of time if you want to use the facility so they can turn it on.

There’s a breakfast room on the 4th floor which serves a hearty continental and American breakfast from 7-10:30am and is free with the room. On the ground floor is the bar where you can order light lunches and dinners – mostly paninis and pizzas.

Drinking

The ground floor bar has a great apperitivo at 6pm with a free buffet when you buy a glass of wine. There’s also a cigar room in the hotel that has an illuminated floor with more watches.
