Fodor's Expert Review La Colombaia
Editor's Note: This property is currently undergoing renovations.
A crenelatted white fortress, La Colombaia was once the summer residence of noted film director Luchino Visconti, and now houses a permanent exhibition of photographs outlining the history of cinema and theater, as well as promoting art and cultural activities on the island. The Visconti Foundation, based here, awards an international prize in the director's name, and plans to host contemporary art exhibitions. The villa itself, unchanged since the director's death in 1976, boasts stunning views over the Baia San Montano. The official address is the town of Forio but the site is actually closer to Lacco Ameno.
