Fodor's Expert Review McMenamin's Townhouse
Spawell Rd., Wexford, Co. Wexford, Ireland Fodor's Choice
Editor's Note: This location is no longer in operation.
From opera divas to Hollywood stars, they've all stayed at this cozy Victorian town house—and not just because of Kay and Seamus McMenamin's homemade whiskey marmalade. This is a lodging of choice for stars of the town's annual opera festival who love the spacious bedrooms and highly polished Victorian furniture. Other travelers consider this a cozy stopover before the ferry takes them to France. The bedrooms are warm and immaculate, with 19th-century furnishings and antique beds, including a mahogany half-tester. There are about eight choices at breakfast, including fresh fish of the day and hot porridge.
PROS
- family-run lodging
- great breakfast
- beautiful antique beds in rooms
CONS
- only four rooms, so it books up quickly
- no TVs in rooms
