Fodor's Expert Review Mount Vernon

Flaggy Shore, New Quay, Burren, Oughtmama, Co. Clare, Ireland Fodor's Choice

Editor's Note: This location is no longer in operation.

This stunning, whitewashed Georgian house on the ridge of the Burren overlooks Galway Bay, and was named for a friendship with George Washington (the three cypress trees in its walled garden are reputedly gifts from the U.S. president). One highlight is the farm-to-fork food from breakfast to organic dinners. Visitors vie for one of the four tastefully decorated rooms in green and gold, restrained and uncluttered. Mount Vernon balances comfort with features like its open fires in the library and sitting room, fresh linen in the bedroom and very contemporary en suites.
