Bus Travel

An extensive network of buses serves most parts of Iceland. Services are intermittent in the winter season, and some routes are operated only in summer. Fares from Reykjavík range from ISK 2,100 for a one-way trip in summer to  Þingvellir, to ISK 11,800 for a summer round-trip to Akureyri. The bus network is operated by Bifreiðastöð Íslands; its BSÍ terminal is on the northern rim of Reykjavík Airport.

BSÍ Bus Terminal. For those taking the Reykjavík Excursions FlyBus service from Keflavík International Airport, BSÍ Bus Terminal is the main stop in the capital. Featuring the characteristic, well-worn charms of most European bus stations, with snoozing backpackers, storage lockers, restrooms, a photo booth, and slot machines, BSÍ offers booking and information services for tourists, 24 hours a day. Between 6 am and 10 pm, travelers can grab a bite at the Fljót og Gott restaurant on-site: it's especially popular among Icelandic truck and taxi drivers, who come to fill up on a selection of traditional hearty Icelandic food, such as singed sheep’s head, peppered, mashed swede, and boiled potatoes.
