1. Bardúsa
Colorful handknit Icelandic sweaters and other woolens join a handsome exhibition of locally made handicrafts and art at Bardúsa. But the real draw is an old 1900s grocery store and hardware shop hidden in the back of the building, left entirely untouched since the last century. It features an impressive collection of vintage goods and sundries still sitting on the shelves and hanging from the walls and ceiling. The upstairs rooms are dedicated to a merchants’ museum.

2. Alþýðulist
Based in the same delightful turf-topped store as the information center, Alþýðulist (which translates to “folk art”) sells lots of colorful woolens, souvenirs, and handmade crafts proudly produced in the Skagafjörður area.

The island’s only supermarket is well stocked with supplies and also with that good old-fashioned community spirit from the golden age of the local retailer.

4. KIDKA Wool Factory
If you want to make sure your Icelandic woolen goods are truly made in Iceland, then the KIDKA wool shop is your best bet. The wool is not only processed here, but this is also where the goods are designed and manufactured. They run workshops (for a fee) and offer complimentary tours of the factory, where you can learn the secret of how they make their wool so soft and fluffy.
