Fodor's Expert Review Fehér Szarvas
Editor's Note: This location is no longer in operation.
The name of this homey rustic cellar, a longtime Eger dining landmark, means "white stag," and game is the uncontested specialty. Favorites include venison fillet served in a pan sizzling with goose liver and herb butter; wild boar with juniper berries in red wine sauce; rabbit (presumably not wild) spiced with thyme; and knuckle of lamb (no, not wild either) with mushroom-bacon sweetbreads. The many antlers, skulls, skins, and mounted birds hanging from rafters and walls—not to mention the two little stuffed goats by the entrance—make the inn look like Archduke Franz Ferdinand's trophy room.
