Prestige Hotel Budapest

District V, Vigyázó Ferenc utca 5, Budapest, 1051, Hungary, Budapest, Hungary

Why We Like It

Hotel Prestige Budapest is an attractive former palace repackaged as a chic hotel, with a stupendous restaurant and a fancy turn-of-the-century vibe. It's in a great location but the fact it misses out on the river views means you get more for your money than at some of its rivals.

Fodor's Expert Review

This stylish hotel set around a gorgeous inner courtyard aims to conjure up turn-of-the-century Budapest, and largely succeeds. A shiny entrance, all gold mosaics and reception staff in three-piece-suits, announces its intentions and the rest of the property follows through, with its Michelin-starred Costes Downtown restaurant, chic rooms, and a great location close to the river.

Room

Rooms face the street or the courtyard, and have a similar gold, silver and cream vibe as the lobby, as well as comfortable king-size beds.

You Should Know While the courtyard-facing rooms are very quiet, there can be some street noise in the rooms and suites that face the street.

Bathroom

Bathrooms are cream and pleasantly low-lit, with showers or baths and good water pressure.

Lobby

The lobby is reassuringly fancy, with a huge chandelier the height of the glass atrium and high-backed chairs dotted around.

Gym

The first floor has a relaxation room, fitness room, jacuzzi, sauna and showers.

Dining

The hotel's Costes Downtown restaurant is Michelin-starred and popular - book ahead. As well as fantastic food, the living wall and high brick ceilings make for a great atmosphere. Its breakfast is served there, too, and it's a lovely affair, with a good quality if small buffet and cooked options from a menu.

Drinking

As well as a cool bar area, the hotel, a former palace, has stuck with its roots and opened a room known as the "Saloon", effectively a parlour designed for reading, working, or relaxing on golden velvet chairs.

Tip Try the "Hungary's Got Talent" cocktail, made of traditional spirits and inspired by pisco sours.

What's Nearby

Getting Around

Close to the river - although it doesn't boast the views of some of its considerably pricier competitors - it still boasts all the benefits of this location right at the heart of the city, meaning it is walking distance from all the sights, the airport transport and other public transport hubs.

Restaurants

We liked Presszo Terv (1-minute walk), a take on a traditional pub with great schnitzel and a cool vibe. Or Café Kör (5-minute walk) is a welcoming Hungarian bistro with vaulted ceilings.

Bars

Try Spoon (5-minute walk), a chic lounge bar on a boat on the river. Or treat yourself at the Four Seasons Gresham Palace and slip into its gorgeous Lobby Bar and Lounge (3-minute walk) for a pre-prandial glass of champagne in stellar surroundings. You're worth it.
