Fodor's Expert Review Potamitis Windmills

Cape Skinari, Zakynthos, Greece

The entreprenurial Potamitis brothers (who also own a restaurant and boat company) have converted two old windmills on the clifftop of Skinari into a pair of stays right next to the Blue Caves viewpoint. They're surprising petit, and were once used to grind flour. Inside, they just about manage to squeeze in a lounge, kitchenette, bathroom, and shower, as well as a bedroom with double bed—there's even a pool. It's room enough for two, and sunset spent gazing out over the cliffs is magical. The stone windmill is the pick of the pair as it's slightly more removed from the taverna. There are also rooms and an apartment nearby.

PROS

  • there's nothing else quite like it on the island
  • great views from your own private windmill
  • you're well placed for trips to the Blue Caves (the owners can also arrange boat trips)

CONS

  • things are pretty cozy inside
  • the adjacent taverna can be noisy
  • there's not all that much to do in this part of the island
