Pella

Pella was Alexander's birthplace and the capital of the Macedonian state in the 4th century BC. The modern-day village is not the most alluring, (and there isn't anywhere to stay) and hides the fact that Pella was once a thriving city-state with the largest agora market of its time. It housed workshops, administrative buildings, shops, and much more. The city was built using the sophisticated Hippodamian grid plan—by none other than the great Hippodamos himself. On the hill to the north, one can visit the vast palatial complex where King Philip and Alexander the Great once lived.
