When to Go
The weather on the islands tends to be the same as in Athens, though the heat can feel more intense on the arid peaks of Aegina and Hydra. The island breeze—felt on all the Saronic isles, particularly later in the day—makes these vacation destinations more refreshing than the mainland on summer evenings (and in winter, more bitter, due to the lower humidity). There is a risk of summer fires, so do not wander into forested areas in the hot-weather months. Check the forecast before heading to Aegina, Hydra, or Spetses at any time of year—bad weather in the off-season or strong August winds (meltemia) may strand you on the island you only intended to visit briefly.
