Editor's Note: This location is no longer in operation.

At the foot of Mt. Oros, half a mile southeast of the village of Pachia Rachi, the Hellenic Wildlife Hospital (EKPAZ) is a nonprofit institution, the oldest and largest wildlife rehabilitation center in Greece and southern Europe. It treats 2,000 wild animals from all over Greece every year, many of which are released back into the wild. You can visit the sanctuary and adopt a wild animal, such as Obelix, the wild boar, and a black vulture, the third-largest bird of prey in the world, for €50 per year. This wildlife hospital is one of the few that doesn't euthanize animals that are handicapped, caring for them into their old age.
