Chora

Atop a hill due south of Skala, the village of Chora, clustered around the walls of the Monastery of St. John the Theologian, has become a preserve of international wealth even as the whitewashed houses, Byzantine mansions, and quiet, twisting lanes retain a great deal of dignity and charm. Though the short distance from Skala may make walking seem attractive, a steep incline can make this challenging. A taxi ride is about €8, and there is frequent bus service (€2 from Skala and other points on the island).
