The region's climate is at its best when the two states are most crowded with vacationers—in July and August. Winter can be harsh in this area, and even spring and fall are rather windy, chilly, and rainy. To avoid the crowds, schedule your trip for June or September. But don't expect tolerable water temperatures or hot days on the beach.
