Fodor's Expert Review

Tucked away in Tbilisi's hip Vera neighborhood, this cozy urban paradise blends seamlessly with its surroundings. A design-forward boutique hotel in a reclaimed Soviet era publishing house, Rooms fuses elements of its past with 20s New York charm—think traditionally-clad bellhops, heavy room keys neatly displayed behind the front desk, and hand-laid tile—with Georgian hospitality. Part of the Design Hotels hospitality group and Adjara hospitality, you can be sure that every detail was carefully curated; this is where you’ll want to retire to after a day of touring the city, either for cocktails on the patio or to curl up with a good book in snug yet sophisticated rooms. Rooms has another location in Kazebegi, and an ultra-trendy hostel and sister-property called Fabrika, also in Tbilisi. Additionally, the group just opened a slightly more upscale property, Stamba, complete with a casino, Chocolaterie, and glass-bottom rooftop swimming pool in the adjacent building.

Room

Guestrooms make bold statements with foliage-print wallpaper, iron bed frames and industrial-chic candelabras. Inside you’ll also find a small but mighty Marshall speaker that you can plug your devices into via auxiliary cable. A bench, desk, and coat hooks are all there for your convenience, as well as free Wi-Fi and a safe. Amenities include shoeshine, as well as a shoehorn, sewing kit, and slippers.

Bathroom

Some rooms come with freestanding tubs; others have glass-doored showers with wooden floors concealing the drain. In addition to hairdryers, bathrooms also have toiletries by Prija. The toilet has its own sliding door for added privacy.

Lobby

Floor to ceiling bookshelves will keep you perusing for a while in the lobby library. Feel free to borrow one during your stay. Tilework, lots of plants, and a guarantee that you’ll always be greeted upon entering the hotel make for a truly welcoming experience.

Gym

The intimate street-facing gym has a stationary bicycle and two treadmills, as well as yoga mats and free weights.

Dining

Walk through a verdant, sun-lit corridor as you make your way to breakfast (or lunch and dinner), in The Kitchen Restaurant inside the hotel, which is spacious yet cozy enough to make you feel like you’re dining in the home of a very well-to-do friend. Touches include a retro espresso machine and a condo deck oven with an old German wood-fired oven facade.

Drinking

The outdoor Garden Bar is likewise filled with foliage; sip craft cocktails made with fresh herbs alongside Tbilisi’s nightlife crowd. You can also sit at the indoor bar or in the lounge on cozy leather couches. Enjoy tasty cocktails and snacks amid unique furnishings, oversize wall art, and a fireplace.
