The superfast TGV Atlantique service links Paris’s Gare Montparnasse to Bordeaux—the major rail hub in this part of France—covering 585 km (365 miles) in 3 hours 30 minutes. From Bordeaux, 15 trains daily run to Bergerac (1 hr 23 mins), at least a dozen serve Périgueux (1 hr 30 mins), and another six go to Sarlat (2 hrs 45 mins). If you’re bound for Cahors, in the southern Dordogne, you can get there direct from Paris’s Gare d'Austerlitz in just over 5 hours.
