Bus Travel

Numerous private bus companies are consolidated into regional bus networks. Key ones include Transports-64 (covering the Pyrénées-Atlantiques department from Lourdes to the coast), Chronoplus (covering the Bayonne-Anglet-Biarritz greater metropolitan area), and R.D.T. L. (covering the Landes department). Where the regional network buses don't go, the trusty SNCF national bus lines occasionally do (www.voyages-sncf.com). Local tourist offices and train stations can provide you with schedules and network maps. When traveling by bus in summer, beware of peak-hour traffic on roads, which can mean both delays and fewer seats on buses.
