Fodor's Expert Review Jules César

Arles, Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur, 13200, France

This 17th-century Carmelite convent makes a picturesque setting for Christian Lacroix's fantaisie interiors, featuring all of the fashion designer's signature flourishes: ultramodern color schemes, large (sometimes jarring) motifs, and a jumble of periods and styles. The rooms go from wildly imaginative on the first floor, to an exuberant "Provençal" style on the second, followed by a more restrained "monastic" style for the third. Many rooms overlook a lovely, quiet courtyard, and the downstairs spa and pool are a nice way to wind down from a day of touring—or before your meal at Lou Marquès, the hotel's gastronomic restaurant. The hotel's central location on the main market street makes exploring Arles's famous Saturday marché a breeze.
