Why We Like It

We're not saying it's for everyone, but for a budget stay in an authentic Paris neighborhood with plenty to explore, especially with kids in tow, we think Yooma will do just fine.

Fodor's Expert Review

Few budget lodgings can boast as impressive a design pedigree as Yooma Urban Lodge, a design collaboration between wunderkind Ora Ito and artist Daniel Buren, let alone one as unpretentious as this hybrid hostel-hotel. Opened in summer 2017 in a so-so neighborhood a 10-minute walk from the Eiffel Tower, this "lifestyle ecosystem" offers a convivial collective atmosphere for no-frills travelers and families who thrive in a lively atmosphere.

You Should Know At the far reaches of the 15th arrondissement, this is not what you'd call a charming neighborhood. But it is close to the Seine, the Eiffel Tower, and public transport.

Room

Compact, functional rooms can accommodate up to six people and feature a bold color-block design with raw wood and concrete accents. Bunk beds are tucked away behind moveable panels and comfy double beds with quality linens insure a good night's sleep. All rooms are lacking in clothing racks and stow spaces and you must not expect the usual hotel amenities: phone, mini bar, coffee, etc. Wi-Fi is free.

You Should Know This kid-friendly hotel offers dedicated changing rooms on each floor and kitchens equipped for heating infant formula and preparing special meals. A handy laundry service is offered at a very reasonable charge.

Bathroom

Spacious baths are equipped with sturdy modern fixtures and ample showers with good water pressure. Bath products are provided, but hair dryers are not.

You Should Know Soaps are not replenished daily in an effort to cut down on waste.

Lobby

The beautifully designed lobby, decorated with colorful original artworks, is capacious enough to accommodate several sprawling lounge areas with space left over for hyperactive kids to burn off steam.

Spa

There is no proper spa but the relaxation room's sauna can hold several people at a time, and you can help yourself to all the herbal tea you want.

Gym

A gym off the lobby offers stationary bike, recumbent bike, rowing machines, and treadmills and a convenient locker room. You're also encouraged to join in the lively yoga classes on weekends. Afterwards, you can relax in the sauna.

Dining

The hotel restaurant's long hours and menu of good, inexpensive comfort food—hamburger and fries, omelettes, salads, and yummy desserts—is perfect for a quick meal (kids menu available). A standard all-you-can-eat buffet breakfast is served from 7 to 10 a.m. After that, you can get coffee, soft drinks, and a range of snacks in the bar. At some point the restaurant will serve vegetables sourced from the impressive rooftop garden, the largest of any hotel in the city and a great spot to hang out for panoramic views of Paris and the Eiffel Tower.

Drinking

Yooma's chic bar area is open all day until 1 a.m. should you need any kind of soft drink, coffee, or a range of wines, spirits, and cocktails.

What's Nearby

Getting Around

Bir-Hakim metro station is a few minutes walk from the hotel, and RER C at Champs-des-Mars-Tour Eiffel takes you direct to Versailles.

Restaurants

You'll feel very lucky indeed to be in this neighborhood after a meal at Le Casse-Noix, an under-the-radar bistro well known to Parisian chefs and foodies, who gladly make the pilgrimage for an inventive, inexpensive menu of contemporary French classics (10-minute walk). La Cantine du Troquet Dupleix (5-minute walk) serves up some of Paris's most authentic Basque dishes, with an emphasis on pork in every form, hearty meats, terrines, soups, and some irresistible desserts, that is if you have any room left.

Bars

Radioeat, at the Maison de la Radio, is hands down one of the city's coolest new dining spaces, with a marble bar and dance floor upstairs and stupendous views of the Eiffel Tower (5-10-minute walk). La Cave de L'Os à Moelle wine bar is a place we absolutely love to hunker down for an evening in its laid-back atmosphere to imbibe in a great choice of wines by the bottle or glass (along with small producer Champagnes, cognac and spirits), a small menu of salads and hot dishes, and friendly service (10-minute walk).
