Park Hyatt Paris Vendôme

Why We Like It

Though quite a big hotel, it has managed the not-do-easy feat of remaining understated, elegant and discreet. There's plenty of in-hotel perks for a getaway weekend and, being at the beating heart of Paris, you have everything you could want or need within walking distance.

Fodor's Expert Review

Understated luxury with a contemporary Zen vibe differentiates this Hyatt from its more classic neighbors in a central neighborhood between Place Vendôme and Opéra Garnier. Five Haussmann-era buildings were converted into a showcase of polished limestone, mahogany-veneer surfaces, and bronze sculptures that add up to the kind of discreet opulence favored by celebrities.

You Should Know Don't expect the usual Hyatt rates here, this is a palace hotel, meaning beyond even a five-star.

Room

The minimalist vibe in the rooms extends to the earth-toned color palette, liberally accented in gold, and spacious lounge and dressing areas. Some rooms have balconies and certain suites come with private terraces with views over the Place Vendôme. The more upscale suites are extremely grand, and the Imperial suite has its own private spa.

Tip Guests agree that street-facing views are the way to go, despite its setting on bustling rue de la Paix.

Bathroom

Large bathrooms with showers next to the baths, the the Japanese style, extend the Asian theme. Luxury products are by Paris perfumer Blaise Mautin.

Lobby

The lobby comprises several lounging areas, associated with dining, that offer seasonal delights, like a working fireplace in winter (La Cheminée), and a spacious outdoor terrace (La Terrace) in the warmer months. You do not have to drink or dine to enjoy them.

Pool

This is one of the few palaces without a pool.

Spa

The full-service spa features products by luxury brand Crème de la Mer, a couples room, whirlpool, sauna and steam room.

You Should Know Though beautiful and peaceful the spa is smaller than many hotels of this calibre, which may be why in-room treatments are encouraged. It is also lacking a pool.

Gym

A small fitness room offers the standard machines and the possibility to book a personal trainer.

Dining

Dining options abound here: for gourmet dining head to one-Michelin-starred Pur', with its open kitchen within view of the dining room rotunda. La Cheminée is a great place for a tranquil afternoon tea or snacks and a drink. La Terrasse's retractable roof and heaters allow for year-round al-fresco dining or a cocktail. Flower-bedecked Les Orchidées gourmet bistro has an atrium feel, which is nice at breakfast.

Drinking

After-hours cocktails in dusky Le Bar, a stylish spot enlivened by colorful paintings and a chic crowd.

What's Nearby

Getting Around

Rue de la Paix is a legendary Paris street, between elegant Place Vendôme and Opéra. Though a major thoroughfare, it still retains its elegance, thanks to the nearby jewelers and high-end shopping, which you'll find in abundance on nearby rue Saint-Honoré. This is a very central, very Parisian neighborhood, full of restaurants, nightlife, and culture easily reachable on foot. Transport to pretty much anywhere in Paris is just a few minutes away, at the Opéra, Madeleine, and Tuileries stations.

Restaurants

There's much to choose from at this central area, from the caviar restaurants on Place de la Madeleine (Kaviar Caspa, an 8-minute walk) to the smaller wine bars along the rue de Richelieu. We love American chef Daniel Rose's gourmet brasserie La Bourse et la Vie (11-minute walk), or for cheaper fare try the Japanese noodle joints on rue Sainte-Anne.

Bars

In this neighborhood, hotel bars are everywhere, from the legendary Hemingway Bar at the Ritz (2-minute walk), to Le Meurice's famed Bar 228 (7-minute walk). A few steps away, Harry's New York Bar (2-minute walk) is a perennial favorite, or chic Danico (10-minute walk), featuring craft cocktails and a pedigreed barman, at the new Daroco Pizzaria (11-minute walk) in lovely Galerie Vivienne.
