Sélestat, midway between Strasbourg and Colmar, is a lively, historic town with a Romanesque church and a library of medieval manuscripts (the latter of which will be closed for renovations until 2017). The fact that it has good transportation links is an added bonus. Head directly to the Vieille Ville and explore the quarter on foot.
