Fodor's Expert Review Devonshire Arms Country House Hotel & Spa
Bolton Abbey, Skipton, North Yorkshire, BD23 6AJ, England
Originally a 17th-century coaching inn, this luxurious country-house hotel near the River Wharfe is an easy walk from Bolton Abbey. A modern wing has guest rooms in a contemporary style, while rooms in the original main house are more traditional. These are tastefully decorated with antiques, four-poster beds, perfectly chosen textiles, and memorabilia from Chatsworth House, the Derbyshire seat of the Duke of Devonshire, who owns the hotel. The elegant Burlington restaurant has earned numerous awards; its eight-course tasting menu uses game, fish, and produce from the estate, while the less formal brasserie serves more moderately priced fare. There's also a lovely spa with an indoor swimming pool in a 17th-century barn and treatments in individual spa areas.
