Truro

The county seat and Cornwall's only real city, Truro is a good option mostly for food and shopping and for cathedral and museum buffs. For an overview of the Georgian houses, take a stroll down steep, broad Lemon Street. The elegant 18th-century facades are of pale stone—unusual for Cornwall, where granite predominates. Like Lemon Street, Walsingham Place is a typical Georgian street, a curving, flower-lined pedestrian oasis. The city nestles in a crook of the River Truro.
