Fodor's Expert Review Queen's Head Hotel

$ Windermere and Bowness-on-Windermere British

This unpretentious 17th-century inn in the pretty little village of Troutbeck is in a superb location. The Queen's Head is owned by Robinsons Brewery, and though its menu is not particularly imaginative, it does serve good, wholesome pub grub throughout the day, as well as Robinsons' cask ales. There is a traditional Sunday lunch with roasted meats and all the trimmings, plus dishes such as smoked haddock and king prawn fish pie. The intimate dining rooms have oak beams, flagged floors, and log fires. If you want to stay overnight, the 10 en suite guest rooms have splendid views, and the pub makes a great starting point for walks up the beautiful Troutbeck Valley.
