Sausages come from the Eden Valley, brown trout from the River Lowther, and many of the greens are grown in the restaurant's gardens at Askham Hall. The inn is also a well-tended spot for a pint of local beer, with handsome slate floors, roaring wood fires, and hanging hops. Bonnie Prince Charlie was once involved in a battle here, and the remains of 12 Scottish rebels were discovered in the pub's back garden.
