Fodor's Expert Review Macdonald Alveston Manor
Clopton Bridge, Stratford-upon-Avon, Warwickshire, CV37 7HP, England
This redbrick Elizabethan manor house across the River Avon has plenty of historic features, as well as a modern spa with a long list of treatments. Rooms are comfortably sized, with contemporary furnishings, mainly in brown; a few Tudor-style rooms in the main building have four-poster beds, but those in the annex are of more modern design. Original fireplaces and paneling have been preserved in the comfortable lounges, where you can sip a soothing cup of tea. Legend says the grounds were the setting for the first production of A Midsummer Night’s Dream.
