The Ned

27 Poultry, London, London EC2R 8AJ, England

Why We Like It

Stylish without verging on pretentious, the Ned is the type of place you could spend a week and not get bored. If you like the idea of dressing up and making an occasion of your hotel experience then this is the hotel to indulge yourself. With or without a burning love of the Roaring Twenties, the interior splendor, charming service and sheer range of amenities will seduce you. Created in part by the man who brought the world the Soho House empire, the hotel naturally has an element of hipster chic to its old-world charm, but don’t let that put you off. While the City can be a rather soulless neighborhood on weekends, the Ned has a great location from which short walks take you east into lively Shoreditch or south over the bridge to Borough.

Fodor's Expert Review

Bursting with eye-catching art deco design, and achingly hip, sumptuous interiors, The Ned is as close to the glamor of the 1920s Jazz Age as you’ll find in contemporary London. Part hotel, part private members’ club, there’s an exclusivity that will appeal to those who want a chic hotel experience. Beautifully designed vintage rooms, nine eclectic dining options, and a lively atmosphere make the Ned the ideal spot for couples in search of a hip luxury stay.

Room

A home away from home—if your home happens to come straight out of the pages of Harper’s Bizarre circa 1920—the hotel’s 252 rooms are styled with vintage furnishings, heavy patterned fabrics and stunning details.

Bathroom

The elegant marble mosaic bathrooms feature walk-in rainforest showers with Cowshed products. Only some of the larger Heritage Rooms feature bathtubs.

Lobby

Nowhere is the Gatsbyesque, Jazz Age style of the Ned more evocative than in its sprawling lobby. Replete with 92 separate emerald stone columns supporting the ten-meter high ceiling, the lobby finds space for seven individual restaurants and bars, as well as a raised plinth from which a live band regularly welcomes guests to the party.

You Should Know The Ned is a place to see and be seen in the heart of The City, which means when clocking off time strikes, the public lobby isn’t the place to drink and dine if intimacy is on your agenda.

Pool

Nestled in the serene basement, flanked by chequered tiles, stone pillars, and Tiffany-style lights, the 20-meter indoor pool is a glamorous place to take a dip. Those who don’t mind quite literally diving into the party can enjoy the amazing views of St. Paul’s Cathedral from the rooftop bar’s guest and members’ only infinity pool.

Tip Take your time to appreciate the beautiful basement locker rooms, whose old-world grandeur give you the sense that this is where the deals once got done.

Spa

The Cowshed Spa is the spot for pampering treatments from facials to full body salt scrubs, while informal salon Cheeky offers manicures and pedicures for the urbanite in a hurry.

Gym

Besides a well-appointed fitness gym with an array of cross trainers and treadmills, plus three studios for Pilates and yoga, a separate boxing gym, complete with full-size ring, gives guests the chance to hone their Rocky routines.

Dining

A choice of dining options gives you the chance to eat your way around the world at the Ned—provided you’re staying long enough. From the New York deli goods of Zobler’s to the Asian-Pacific cuisine of Kaia, the restaurants slot into individually styled partitions, while all sharing the atmosphere of the grand lobby.

You Should Know Three guest-only dining options mean you won’t have to compete with the general public for tables.

Drinking

While most of the Ned's dining options are just as suitable for drinking, the Nickel Bar is the place to drink classic cocktails and swing to the live lounge bands who regularly play.

Salon

When you’re staying at a hotel as stylish as the Ned, the option to be able to change your hairstyle at the drop of a hat is important. Fortunately, the Ned’s Barber & Parlour basement has you covered with both the Miguel Perez salon and Ned’s Barbershop—a speakeasy style shop for cuts and shaves.

What's Nearby

Getting Around

You’re in the heart of the City of London so you’ll see black cabs at every turn, however, the well-connected Bank Underground station is a minute’s walk from the hotel and offers the quickest, most convenient access to the city.

Restaurants

While leaving the Ned for drinking and dining is unnecessary, the area has plenty of options should you need a change. Hawksmoor Guildhall (4-minute walk) serves some of the best steak in the city, while Coq d’Argent (1-minute walk) offers classic French cooking in an exclusive environment. For something different, take the lift to the top of Heron Tower where Duck and Waffle (7-minute walk) offers its signature, you guessed it, confit duck and waffle.

Bars

The Culpepper (15-minute walk) combines a City cocktail bar with a traditional pub to good effect, while the Counting House (4minute walk) is a beautiful old pub housed in a former banking hall.
