Why We Like It

For a hotel that seems to attract a predominantly business clientele, the Cavendish has its charms—its main appeal being the location slap bang in the middle of the West End. We like the rooms with views and the relaxed vibe that’s unusual to find in an area this bustling.

Fodor's Expert Review

Located on Jermyn Street, London’s historic home of menswear, surrounded by fashionable neighbors whose number include esteemed tailors and shirt makers, the Cavendish does a grand job of fitting in displaying a slick, modern style. Near to Mayfair, St James’ and Piccadilly, the central location appeals to business travelers, while the close proximity to the sights, bars and restaurants of the West End is perfect for tourists too.

Tip The hotel unfortunately has no gym, but should guests want to stretch their legs then how about a gentle jog among the neighboring pastures of Green Park?

Room

Rooms here tread a line between classic and contemporary, falling somewhere between the two. The gold, beige and cream scheme is complemented by heavy drapes, bold textiles and thick carpet, and while they might not be the most imaginative in the style stakes, they’re more than comfortable.

You Should Know The large windows in some rooms look out to views of the London skyline so request in advance. For the full panoramic skyline book the penthouse suite-worth the upgrade for the views alone.

Bathroom

Bathrooms at the lower end of the pricing scale may be modest in size but come decorated in smart neutral tones that feel fresh and contemporary. Walk-in showers are the norm in the smaller doubles, while larger rooms come with deep tubs.

Lobby

The slick, slightly sterile lobby feels very much like it’s geared towards the type of business traveler who favors a quick and efficient arrival over time spent lounging in front of open fires, antiques and decorative art. Still, it’s bright and welcoming and there are sofas should you want to take a load off.

Dining

The formal Petrichor restaurant serves a modern European menu that sticks to the classics while adding a touch of pizzazz when it comes to presentation.

Tip Inspired by the tailors of Jermyn Street, the Cavendish serves an afternoon tea in which cakes and sandwiches are served from sewing boxes resembling the tools of the neighborhood's old artisans.

Drinking

The Petrichor restaurant’s neighboring lounge bar is a similarly formal space where guests can indulge in cocktails from a menu inspired by the drinks of the Roaring Twenties. Expect gentle music and a relaxed vibe in a bar mostly frequented by guests of the hotel.

What's Nearby

Getting Around

With a perfect location from which to explore central London, guests shouldn’t need to use any form of transport other than their feet if keen to explore the hotel’s regal surroundings. Mayfair, Piccadilly and Soho are close so expect to find premium shopping and an excellent cast of bars and restaurants. Should you need the Tube, Green Park Station is a mere 5-minute walk.

Restaurants

If you’re after something a little more exotic than the, at times, rather hushed Petrichor restaurant then go straight to Brasserie Zedel (6-minute walk) for pink napkins, pressed white tablecloths and flamboyant French brasserie glamour. Alternatively, forget France and opt for Italy at the stylish Cocchetti (4-minute walk) where you can dine on small plates and remember what real Italian food should taste like.

Bars

While you’re at Brasserie Zedel, don’t forget to stop in on Bar Américain (6-minute walk), the sultry cocktail bar that shares the same subterranean space. If you don’t mind walking a little further, head for Soho and the Blind Pig (10-minute walk) where the innovative range of cocktails might keep you there for a while.
