Why We Like It

The Firmdale Group’s collection of London hotels—which include the Ham Yard Hotel, Covent Garden Hotel and the Soho Hotel among others—never tend to deviate from their standard script of playful, yet formal interiors, trendy restaurant bars, and premium service, but it’s a script we’re always happy to indulge.

Fodor's Expert Review

A beautiful boutique property in the heart of Central London, the Charlotte Street Hotel is all literary nods and artistic winks. Located on a relatively quiet side street in Fitzrovia, the hotel is a classy establishment that will appeal to the style maven who can appreciate the playful, imaginative décor of hotel design supremo, Kit Kemp. From the continental terrace that introduces the hotel, to the relaxed public spaces and their art deco murals, there’s an unmistakably romantic charm perfect for couples.

You Should Know The popularity of the busy public bar and restaurant means that reservations are a good idea, even for guests.

Room

The beauty of Kit Kemp’s décor is that she finds a balance between the zany and the restrained, creating a range of individually designed rooms that we could stay in and never leave. The smallest Queen Rooms are adequately sized, and large windows fill them with natural light while creating the impression of a larger space.

Bathroom

Sumptuous grey granite surfaces and oak fixtures make for a luxury bath time experience. Free standing bathtubs compliment the walk-in showers in some rooms.

Lobby

While it’s a welcoming entrance rather than a defined space in which to hang out, the smart, sophisticated lobby has a wood burning open fire that makes for a good place to linger during foggy London town’s colder months.

Gym

The well-equipped gym provides an array of cardiovascular machines and some free weights. In addition, the mobile Soholistic Spa can offer massage and treatments to guests in the privacy of their rooms.

Dining

The Oscar restaurant, with its comfortable banquet seating and art deco mural, serves a modern European menu, although if you’ve splashed the cash on the hotel, the prices might mean you don’t end up eating in-house too often.

Drinking

The bar at Oscar serves a selection of small plates to accompany the cocktails, fine wines and in-depth Champagne list.

Cinema

The popular screening room is an excellent chance to catch cult classics on the big screen.

Tip Make a date of it and pair dinner and a movie with the hotel's special Film Club package.

What's Nearby

Getting Around

Just north of Oxford Street, you couldn’t hope for a more central location, that said, Fitzrovia is relatively quiet on weekends, which is ideal. Tottenham Court Road and Goodge Street Tube stations are close and offer good connections to the city.

Restaurants

For similar food to the plates served at Oscar but with slightly more bang for your buck, try the modern European menu at Percy and Founders (4-minute walk). If you’re after a big, budget meal, head for Ray’s Pizza & Diner (13-minute walk), where the pizzas are almost as big as the tables.

Bars

Bourne and Hollingsworth (1-minute walk) is a basement bar that all but guarantees a fun evening, thanks to the excellent music, teacup cocktails and general good time vibes, while salt of the earth pub, The Champion (7-minute walk) represents an excellent place to soak up the architecture of a classic London boozer, enclosed by stained glass windows.
