Why We Like It

The Athenaeum is a high-class luxury property that brings five-star service to a contemporary boutique experience. We love the bustle of the well-designed public spaces and the park views from some rooms, while the location is perfect for so many of the finer things that London has to offer. The chic bar and pavement terrace are the icing on the cake.

Fodor's Expert Review

Tucked away behind a façade clothed in an impressive carpet of climbing flora and fauna, the Athenaeum Hotel is located in the heart of Central London, right on Piccadilly. Besides the garden wall, guests can enjoy further bucolic sights with Green Park next door. A luxe five-star boutique hotel, the property will provide the discerning leisure travel with all they need for a pampered stay in an exclusive neighborhood.

Room

Standard rooms may not be the biggest but large, floor-to-ceiling windows make sure they feel bigger than they are. The ample natural light that floods the space will make sure you won’t miss a detail in the swanky rooms, whose décor is all contemporary chic. All rooms come with supremely comfortable Hypnos mattresses so expect a battle to leave the bed in the morning. If you can, pay the extra price for a park view room and enjoy waking up to Green Park outside your window.

Tip For longer stays or if you merely need more space, the hotel’s own apartments—located in the building next door—provide a luxury home from home in the heart of Piccadilly.

Bathroom

In the bathrooms, the swanky contemporary look of the rooms is swapped for a more traditional style. All marble everywhere provides a suitably refined place to refresh yourself.

Lobby

Modern and sophisticated, guests are spoilt for choice as to where to hang out in the Athenaeum’s buzzing lobby. Lounge areas are partitioned by handsome glass walls and feature attractive parquet floors and stylish details.

Spa

The spa is an extravagant space filled with marble and cedar wood details to help with that transition into restful abandon that’s bound to come with a dip in the hot tub or a detoxifying stint in the sauna. A range of treatments and therapies are also available.

You Should Know Once reserved for guests only, the spa is now open to non-residents.

Gym

A streamlined gym with cardio machines and free weights is part of the Athenaeum Spa.

Dining

Michelin-starred chefs the Galvin brothers helm the Athenaeum Restaurant, bringing a British inspired menu to the relaxed dining room. Being a luxury London hotel, The Athenaeum naturally offers a daily afternoon tea.

Drinking

Come summer, the Athenaeum’s terrace bar is the place to soak up the rays with pavement drinks set to the bustle of Piccadilly’s hum. Inside, the sleek, dark bar is an intimate spot for cocktails.

What's Nearby

Getting Around

This walkable area of London is filled with shops, bars and galleries that guests can make the most of without resorting to taxis and public transport. Green Park strolls and Mayfair gallery hopping are both absolute musts. If you need the Tube, Green Park Station is a 5-minute walk.

Restaurants

Looking for a statement restaurant to impress someone? Head for Le Caprice (8-minute walk), the legendary art deco restaurant—preferably on a Sunday night for live jazz. Equally as swanky, nearby Nobu London (3-minute walk) is the place for world-class sushi—just expect to pay a high price.

Bars

If you’re in the neighborhood it would be a crime not to visit Trader Vic’s (4-minute walk) for at least one cocktail to be drunk from an extravagant tiki mug. Located on the other side of the park, Dukes Bar (9-minute walk) at Duke’s Hotel is the only place for a Vespa Martini. No one pours a martini as well as head bartender Alessandro Palazzi.
