Fodor's Expert Review The Crown
$$
Southwold
Modern British
This 17th-century building has a relaxed ambience in its maritime-themed Back Bar and a buzzier, but still cozy, atmosphere in the eclectic brasserie and wine bar at the front. The seafood dishes, such as "ghost ship" battered cod (don't get too excited, it's a type of beer) served with chips, or halibut with potato risotto and Parmesan, are excellent. The handful of bedrooms upstairs are quite small but have a contemporary look; prices start at around £185 for bed-and-breakfast.
