Fodor's Expert Review Shilling Grange
Shilling St., Lavenham, Suffolk, CO10 9RH, England Fodor's Choice
Editor's Note: This location is no longer in operation.
This timber-framed house, built in 1425, has been beautifully converted into a chic and comfortable B&B. The three bedrooms are surprisingly spacious for an inn of this age, with (non-working) fireplaces and exposed oak beams. A few modern touches sit seamlessly among all this history, such as wall-mounted "smart TVs" and free Wi-Fi. Downstairs is a small lounge with an honesty bar, and outside you can take a stroll through the lovely gardens. Be sure to ask the delightful hosts, Bob and Sheila, about the history of the house, which has a unique claim to fame—apparently the lullaby "Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star" was written in one of the guest rooms.PROS
