Why We Like It
The wow-factor of staying in a 17th century monastery perched on a hill overlooking the Golden City is hard to beat, and the Questenberk combines this with old-fashioned charm, modern facilities and great customer care.

For castle junkies, Questenberk is actually in Prague's Unesco World Heritage castle district, Hradčany. The hotel building dates from 1620 and is part of the beautiful Strahov Monastery, perched on the hill overlooking Prague. The views are great and the location is quiet, but it is up a steep hill (or the No.22 tram can also do the job for you). The hotel itself is opulent and perhaps a touch old-fashioned.

Room
Some rooms have beautiful wooden floors with star patterns. Others have more dubious traditional hotel-style carpets, but the furnishings are generally lush and comfortable, and despite the age of the building, there is good air-conditioning. Each of the 27 rooms are different.
Tip The Grand Deluxe rooms have the best views, either of the monastery or the sweeping vista across the city itself. Some rooms have small windows, but historical touches like wooden beams make up for this--ask when you book if this will bother you.
Bathroom
The bathrooms are generally spacious and well-appointed, with good shower pressure and powerful hairdryers (better than the standard hotel appliance). The provided robes and slippers are particularly comfy.
Lobby
The lobby is really just a room and a wooden desk, but staff are friendly and efficient, and very keen to help.
Gym
There are no fitness facilities, but you are steps away from Petřín park, one of Prague's loveliest outdoor spaces.
Dining
The a la carte hotel breakfast is good, including homemade yogurt, and the views from the breakfast room are gorgeous.
You Should Know Breakfast is extra, but it's worth it for the views and the food.
Drinking
There's no bar, but there's complimentary tea and coffee all day in the guest lounge, plus afternoon refreshments and a welcome drink on arrival.
What's Nearby
Getting Around
The good news: all of Prague's main sights are down the hill (Old Town Square, over the river, is a picturesque half-hour stroll taking in the city's greatest hits, sights-wise). The bad news: You might have to walk back up that hill to get home. The consolation: The No.22 tram also tackles the hill.
Restaurants
The Golden Well (18-minute walk) hotel offers gorgeous food and beautiful views, although sadly you have to go down the hill and then back up another hill to reach it. Or Malostranská beseda (16-minute walk) is a multi-level art and performance space with a traditional Czech pub dishing up decent classics on the ground floor.
Bars
The hotel is based within the Strahov Monastery (1-minute walk), so it would be a shame to miss the monk's home-brewed beer on you doorstep. Or, further down the hill, check out U Hrocha (15-minute walk), an old-school Czech pub.
