With around 1.5 million tourists per year, Zagreb is Croatia’s most-visited city, though it may not seem like it if you’re wandering a crowded coastal town in mid-July. But Zagreb has the top-notch hotels and hostels to prove it, catering to any range of budgets. Rates of 1,100 Kn or (much) more for a double room are not uncommon, though there is a range of chic hostels and apartments available for rent that are comfortable, modern, and more budget-friendly. Smaller towns and the countryside, as a whole, do still offer cheaper options than the capital, with affordable private rooms and agritourism-style accommodations aplenty.
